A wonderful hacienda estate in the Foothills, at the top of Swan Rd, photographed for Realtor® Kimberly Marohn of Tierra Antigua. This hacienda-style estate is part of the Skyline Country Club (the one in Tucson, AZ not the one in Valley Center, CA) and it is backed to a very green fairway.
For the photographer, this mission is a delight and for several reasons: (1) the magical environment with the golf club, the wonderful vegetation on the property, the million-dollar views of the Catalina Mountains; (2) the patio of the property is super stylish with a pool and some architectural details that naturally attract the lens; (3) the character of the hacienda itself; (4) some of the rooms are spectacular.
The mission had its challenges: (a) the hacienda was empty and this is a lot of void without anything to fill it; (b) some features have to be renovated and yet they had to be shot; (c) because of the style of the construction, the light inside the hacienda isn’t easy to work with — some rooms are dark because a hacienda is built to preserve its residents from the heat of Southern Arizona.
To handle the contrast between well-lit areas and dark shadows, I used several speedlights and longer exposures. In some areas, I exposed the windows (of French doors) separately and brought the 2 exposures together in Photoshop. Anything to avoid HDR and keep in control of the tones.
